Patient Quick Guide: How to Read & Understand Medicine Information
Understanding your prescription and OTC medicine labels helps prevent accidental double-dosing and dangerous drug interactions.
Amoxicillin
Generic: AmoxicillinTreat bacterial infections
Amoxicillin destroys bacteria by sabotaging their ability to construct protective cell walls. As bacteria divide, their cell walls weaken and pop under fluid pressure, curing the bacterial infection.
Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate
Generic: Amoxicillin Trihydrate and Potassium ClavulanateIndicated for severe or recurrent acute otitis media, acute bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections (pyelonephritis, recurrent cystitis), skin and soft-tissue infections (cellulitis, animal bites, severe dental abscesses), and intra-abdominal or pelvic infections.
This medicine combines two active agents that work together as a powerful antibacterial team: Amoxicillin attacks and breaks down the bacterial cell wall, causing bacteria to rupture and die. Potassium Clavulanate acts as an enzyme shield, disarming the chemical weapons (beta-lactamase enzymes) that resistant bacteria produce to destroy antibiotics. By neutralizing bacterial resistance, the combination cures deep and persistent infections.
Azithromycin
Generic: AzithromycinTreat bacterial infections
Azithromycin stops bacteria from growing and multiplying by jamming their protein-building machinery. Without essential proteins, bacteria cannot survive.
Cefpodoxime Proxetil
Generic: Cefpodoxime ProxetilIndicated for acute community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (AECB), acute maxillary sinusitis, acute otitis media, streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (acute cystitis and uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis).
Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell walls. By inactivating bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), it causes the bacterial wall to crack, leak, and burst under internal osmotic pressure, rapidly clearing bacterial infections of the chest, throat, ears, sinuses, and urinary tract.
Cefuroxime Axetil
Generic: Cefuroxime AxetilIndicated for acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis, acute otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis, uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and early Lyme disease (erythema migrans).
Cefuroxime is a second-generation antibiotic that destroys bacteria by breaking down their protective cell wall. It binds to essential bacterial enzymes (penicillin-binding proteins) that lock cell wall components together. Without this protective barrier, bacteria cannot survive and rupture, eradicating stubborn lung, sinus, ear, and Lyme disease infections.
Cephalexin
Generic: Cephalexin (Cefalexin)First-line therapy for skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis, impetigo, folliculitis, furuncles, wound infections), streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections (acute cystitis), acute otitis media, and bone infections (osteomyelitis) caused by susceptible organisms.
Cephalexin works by disabling the enzymes bacteria need to build and maintain their strong cellular outer walls. As the bacteria attempt to grow and divide without intact peptidoglycan mesh, their cell wall breaks down and bursts due to internal fluid pressure, killing the bacteria and curing the infection.
Ciprofloxacin
Generic: Ciprofloxacin HydrochlorideComplicated urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, infectious bacterial diarrhea, typhoid fever, intra-abdominal infections, bone and joint infections, and anthrax post-exposure prophylaxis.
Ciprofloxacin halts bacterial infections by disabling the vital enzymes bacteria require to unwind, copy, and repair their genetic DNA code.
Doxycycline
Generic: DoxycyclineTreat bacterial infections, acne
Doxycycline freezes bacterial protein synthesis by blocking amino acid delivery to bacterial ribosomes, preventing bacteria from multiplying and allowing the immune system to clear the infection.
Gatifloxacin
Generic: GatifloxacinBacterial conjunctivitis
Gatifloxacin works at the cellular level to correct underlying biochemical imbalances, reduce clinical symptoms, and support overall health.
Gentamicin
Generic: GentamicinSerious bacterial infections
Gentamicin works at the cellular level to correct underlying biochemical imbalances, reduce clinical symptoms, and support overall health.
Nitrofurantoin
Generic: NitrofurantoinTreatment and prophylaxis of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Nitrofurantoin works at the cellular level to correct underlying biochemical imbalances, reduce clinical symptoms, and support overall health.
Tetracycline
Generic: TetracyclineTreatment of various bacterial infections, acne
Tetracycline halts bacterial reproduction by blocking bacterial cells from manufacturing the essential proteins they require to survive.
Tobramycin
Generic: TobramycinManagement of cystic fibrosis patients with P. aeruginosa, superficial eye infections
Tobramycin works at the cellular level to correct underlying biochemical imbalances, reduce clinical symptoms, and support overall health.
